How I help first-time buyers

  • Down payment help. Statewide programs such as CalHFA, and local programs such as the City of Antioch's Home Ownership Program, can help qualified buyers. I help you check the rules before you write an offer.
  • The true monthly cost. Property taxes, special taxes, HOA dues and insurance can change your budget. I pull them for each home you consider.
  • Condos and townhomes. If you are using FHA or VA financing, the complex may need approval. I check before you fall in love with a unit.
  • Inspections and disclosures. I explain what the reports mean and which items are worth negotiating.
  • After closing. File for the homeowners' exemption by February 15 and watch for the supplemental tax bill.

Is there down payment help for first-time buyers in Antioch?

Yes. The City of Antioch's Home Ownership Program offers interest-free down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible first-time buyers purchasing inside Antioch city limits.

Do I need 20 percent down to buy my first home?

No. Many loan programs allow a smaller down payment. The right option depends on your income, credit and the home you choose.

What costs should I budget for besides the mortgage?

Property taxes, any special taxes or HOA dues, homeowners insurance, and a supplemental tax bill after closing.

When do I file for the homeowners' exemption?
